Former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey recently spoke to cricket.com.au about the upcoming Pakistan tour. Hussey believes that the visitors can definitely not be taken lightly. The highlight of the conversation was the amount of admiration ‘Mr. Cricket’ had for Pakistani pacer, Mohammad Amir. Amir was a revelation of Pakistan cricket half a decade ago. The pacer had taken the cricket world by storm as a 17-year old.
In the 4 matches that Michael Hussey played against Amir, the pacer got the better of Hussey on 3 occasions. It is thus not a surprise that the Aussie was in awe of the left armer. He called Amir as an outstanding talent. He believes the youngster has got a lot potential to do well.
“He’s an outstanding talent. I know he’s been through a lot in a short career really, but I’m personally happy to see him back playing international cricket. I feel like he’s done his time and he’s a class bowler. Again, he’s someone that bowls extremely well with the new ball but is also very good with the old ball as well,” quoted Michael Hussey. He further added that it was only a shame that Amir got involved in an infamous spot-fixing scandal. Also, he added that Pakistan have always been known as breeding ground for pace bowlers. Amit was no exception.
“We’ve always thought that the Pakistanis have amazingly talented players. They always seem to come onto the scene and you think, ‘Wow, this guy’s unbelievable’, and Mohammad Amir was no different. He was young, talented, keen to do well, passionate sort of guy. It was a shame he had to go through that tough period but hopefully, he comes back bigger and better,” quoted the former Australian.
When asked if Pakistan can upset the Australians in the upcoming series, Michael Hussey said that they do have the potential. He went on to add that the day-night Test will hold the key. Whoever wins that match shall have the upper hand in the series.
“Of course they can. Australia is going to have something to say about that though, and we’ve got a great record in Australia. A day-night Test at the Gabba is going to be challenging for both teams, and so it’ll be interesting to see which team can make the adjustments and adapt to those conditions quicker. So whoever wins that first one will have a huge advantage going into the rest of the series,” he conceded.
