Michael Vaughan gives a fitting reply to a Bangladeshi fan after comparing him with Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh cricket suffered a huge blow this week with their Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan being slapped with a ban by the ICC. The governing body of the game banned the cricketer for two years with one year suspended for breaking anti-corruption code. Shakib Al Hasan faced the punishment for not reporting multiple approaches from the alleged bookie Deepak Aggarwal.

The all-rounder’s offences related to two tournaments in 2018: an ODI tri-series in January and an IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab. The bookie contacted Shakib on WhatsApp and asked for details of the teams. However, Shakib did not report those incidents to the ICC or even the Bangladesh Cricket Board and thus faced the punishment.

Shakib’s absence will be a huge blow for Bangladesh who has struggled to do well after the World Cup. Since the tournament ended, they lost the ODI and T20I series in Sri Lanka before losing the one-off Test at home to Afghanistan. The Tigers will next take on formidable India in a three-match T20I and two-match Test series.

And as if the ban was not enough, Michael Vaughan rubbed salt to the wounds with his take on the matter. The former England skipper took to Twitter to slam Shakib and said that he has no sympathy for the allrounder. Michael Vaughan also said that the ICC should have banned the 32-year old for a longer period.

Ever since Michael Vaughan posted about Shakib, he has been facing the wrath of the Bangladeshi fans. And one of the fans went on to point fingers at the ex-cricketer’s cricket career. Replying to Vaughan’s tweet, the fan compared the England legend with Shakib, writing, “Come to the same level first”

Michael Vaughan, in reply, came up with a fitting reply to shut the fan, writing, “I was average .. I accept that .. but at least I wasn’t corrupt .. #Cheers #OnOn”

Meanwhile, Shakib will be free to resume international cricket on October 29, 2020. But in order to resume playing next year, he will have to satisfy the conditions in respect of the suspended part of the sanction.
