Former English skipper Michael Vaughan closely follows the game of cricket. Vaughan is never shy of expressing his views on what goes on in the world of cricket and how things shape up for the different teams. Recently, the former cricketer looked quite pleased to see the Australian side succeed on the first day of the first Test against the touring Sri Lankans at the Gabba.

After having lost the toss, the hosts did exceedingly well to bundle out the visitors for a paltry 144. The pace attack, sans the services of Josh Hazlewood, looked slightly bleak on paper. But his replacment, Jhye Richardson, ensured that the void was villed with utmost ease. Richardson made his Test debut in the match and returned with figures of 3/26.

Meanwhile, Mitch Starc scalped 2/41 and Pat Cummins finished as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/39. The eyes, however, were on Richardson. The 22 year old showed exemplary skills with the red ball, and proved that he can be lethal in the longer format of the game as well.

No wonder why he drew the attention of Michael Vaughan, who was quick to post a tweet on the youngster. Vaughan, in his tweet, lauded the efforts of Richardson and hailed him as ‘high class’. He went on to quote that the Australians have certainly found another match-winner in Richardson.

Richardson earned his Test call-up after Josh Hazlewood was sidelined due to an injury. The fact that Jhye had an excellent ODI series against the visiting Indian side recently, worked wonders for him in earning the Test cap. During the first ODI of the series against India, his magnificent spell had floored the strong Indian batting lineup. He had got the better of the maestro Virat Kohli as well in that game.

Here is what Michael Vaughan had to say:

“Jhye Richardson is high class … my thought of the 1st days play … !! The Aussies have found one …” Michael Vaughan tweeted after the end of day’s play.
