Back in August 2019, Ravi Shastri was re-appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The veteran edged out the likes of Tom Moody and Mike Hesson in the race grab the position. But it wasn’t the first time Shastri was being given the role. In 2017, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) roped him in after Anil Kumble resigned following his altercation with skipper Virat Kohli.

Shastri has had a great time, especially in the last few months. Under his tutelage, Team India is placed at the top in the ICC World Test Championship. Kohli’s men have won every other game and have been unstoppable, especially at home. India’s latest success under Shastri came when they brushed aside Kieron Pollard’s West Indies in the T20I and ODI series on home soil.

With 2019 coming to a close, Shastri is enjoying his time to the fullest. Recently, he took to Instagram and uploaded a picture with Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Raveena Tandon. The image also featured Gautam Singhania, the renowned Indian industrialist.

Shastri captioned the picture and wrote, “Alibag is heaven. Great conversations with some brilliant minds of our times – @iamsrk @officialraveenatandon and @gautamsinghania99 #Blessed #FriendsLikeFamily,”

In the meantime, Michael Vaughan, the former England captain, sent Shastri best wishes for the year 2020. Vaughan replied to India’s head coach and wrote. “Happy new year”.

Though he has helped India garner a number of laurels during his stint, the Men in Blue are yet to win an ICC Trophy. In July, Kohli and Co finished the league stage of the 2019 World Cup at the top of the points table, losing a solitary game versus England at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. But in the semi-final against New Zealand at the Old Trafford in Manchester, India lost by 18 runs.

During this while, rumours surrounding Shastri’s alleged relation with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also did the rounds. But Shastri went on to say that he has utmost respect for the former Indian skipper. Moreover, Shastri reminisced the time when Ganguly dragged the national team out of the pits.
