Cricket, for the fans nowadays, does not end after watching a cricket match in the stadium or on TV unless they post their enthusiasm on Twitter. A single tweet posted by cricketers, former cricketers or other cricket fanatics triggers a chain reaction and it continues until the topic loses its juice or Twitterati lose their humour or wit.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan who had been in the thick of cricket during his time a decade ago was an instrumental player who played crucial roles for his team. Vaughan now a commentator in the Champions Trophy 2017,  took to Twitter to express his reaction about the proceedings of the match between India and Sri Lanka at the Oval.

India were bowling at that time and Sri Lanka were quite poised in the run chase having lost only one wicket. Indian seamers lost the charm they had shown during the earlier matches and that Sri Lanka batted comfortably without any risk. Asking for a change in fortune, Virat, the skipper himself came to bowl, which prompted Vaughan to post a tweet taking a dig on the Men in Blue. He posted:

“You know when Virat has a bowl your team are up sh#t  Creek!!!!! #CT17#INDvSL#

The former cricketer fell in deep mire when a wicket fell in Virat’s over when Danushka Gunathilaka was run out, thus bringing curtains on the majestic century run stand between him and Kusal Mendis. Although Kohli didn’t take the wicket, Indian fans wasted no time in hurling their choicest expletives at Vaughan.

He was taken aback by the swathe of abuses thrown at him. But he kept his cool and rather felt amused. He tweeted his reaction:

The abuse you get on here from Indian fans for being slightly critical about their team for losing a game they should win is amusing.

The ex-cricketer realised that making fun of India can prove to be a costly affair. But soon he started getting a barrage of abuses from the Sri Lankan fans too. Sri Lanka proved to be much fiercer in spewing abuses. The trigger for this Sri Lankan slur was when Vaughan posted a tweet after India scored a humongous 321 for the opponent team. He backed the Indian team to win by a decent margin.

“Can’t see Sri Lanka getting beyond 260…..#CT17#INDvSI.” He tweeted.

When Sri Lanka made a record chase in the second half to hand India a crushing defeat, Sri Lankans jumped to Twitter to slam Michael. He soon realised that he shouldn’t take digs at any Asian team.

“But to fair to Indian Fans the Sri Lankan fans are even better at abuse….just because I got a prediction wrong…!!! Keep em coming.” he tweeted.
