Former England skipper Michael Vaughan believes that Mark Boucher could be the ideal candidate for the next head coach of the South African team. The Proteas team is currently in England for their full tour this season. They have already suffered defeats in the T20Is and the ODI series. Now, a four match Test series beckons them against the hosts. The Test series commences on June 6 at the Lord’s.

While the on-field action is expected to bag the news headlines, the eyes would also be on the South African team management. Reportedly, the Test series against England will be the last assignment with the national side for the current head coach of the team, Russell Domingo. Recently, the reports surfaced the media that suggested that Domingo is in no mood to re-apply for the post after his tenure ends in a month.

Meanwhile, the hunt for the new coach has already begun. The Cricket South Africa has formed a panel of 5 members for interviewing the candidates for the big role. The panel consists of three members from the CSA and two former South African coaches. Among the former coaches, the two members are Eric Simons and Gary Kirsten.

As per the same reports, there are 5 names that are currently being tipped as the forerunners for the post of the head coach. This includes the domestic coaches who have done excellent jobs for their domestic sides in South Africa. Also, in the list is Richard Pybus. Pybus had coached Pakistan to the finals of the 1999 World Cup. The ultimate call remains to be seen.

Boucher his choice

But if the words of Michael Vaughan are to be taken, then former wicket-keeper batsman Mark Boucher would be best suited for the role. Vaughan took to his social media handle where he remarked the same. Michael Vaughan tweeted, “Surely if he wanted it @markb46 should be in contention….. Would be my choice …”
