Mickey Edwards enchants the Australian crowd in the Sydney Cricket Ground

New South Wales-born cricketer Mickey Edwards is currently trending on social media. However, long before he was trending, many had a question on who exactly Edwards was. Most in the Sydney Cricket Ground, including those in the crowd can give themselves a massive pat on the back for the way they welcomed him into the crease.

Perhaps it was the golden flock of hair Edwards sported under the makeshift baggy green he wore on the day. At 22, it is highly unlikely that anyone would be as lucky as him. With hair such as Dennis Lillee’s from the past years was there for all to see, he strode out to take David Warner’s place in the field for a few moments he will never forget.

With Jackson Bird already on the field in place of Matt Renshaw, it was quite clear that someone else had to deputize for David Warner when the latter wanted to make his way away from the field of play momentarily. With no one left among the substitutes, it was indeed the lottery winner Edwards who was draped into the whites of Australia and thrust into the field of play.

A local boy, the 22-year old was given a standing ovation from the Sydney Crowd, a few of whom have also seen him play for the New South Wales team. While records show that he has played just the two matches, he has become a favorite already.

Mickey Edwards also plays for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League and also has a verified Twitter account with a handful of followers. Of course, it is expected to smash ten times what is expected in the next couple of days. Only ‘Alex From Target’ has been such a sensation in recent times given his popularity on social media.
