Misbah-ul-Haq scotches rumours of retirement: Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq has said that he has no plans of retiring any time soon and would assess his future following the series against England in the United Arab Emirates.

Misbah was earlier quoted as saying that he planned to retire after the high-profile series against India in December. However, with the India series looking increasingly uncertain,

Misbah seemed to have changed his mind about retirement he was quoted by a news channel saying, “I have made no plans at this time but I will review my future and what I should do after the series against England,”

Misbah-ul-Haq is Pakistan’s most successful Test captain with 15 Test wins, one more than both Imran Khan and Javed Miandad. Despite this, he has had his fair share of critics who have questioned his style of captaincy.

“It is a challenge to lead the Pakistan team and the players have really done well as a unit which is why despite not playing at home since 2009 we have achieved some notable success,” he said.

“The series against England will be a challenging one even though we play on pitches to which we are used to playing. “But I don’t think the results of 2012 will matter now as England have new players and have recently won the Ashes as well,” he added.

Misbah is notoriously remembered for the attempted scoop shot in the final of the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 which didn’t come off and gave India the victory.
