In the first ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand, an unfortunate incident took place. New Zealand fast bowler suffered a hairline fracture just above his left eye while batting during the match in Wellington. A bouncer hit his face through the gap in the helmet and hit his left eye. This injury rules him out of the second ODI in Napier and probably out of the last ODI on Sunday as well. On Friday in Auckland he is set to undergo a minor cosmetic injury on his face.

The injury was picked up by McClenaghan when he was batting brilliantly at 31 off just 17 balls. It was during the penultimate ball of the last over that an Anwar Ali bouncer quickly squeezed past his helmet and hit his eye injuring it. The area around the eye was swollen when he fell. Everybody moved towards him and he was taken off the field by the team physio.

He didn’t bowl in the second innings instead spent his time in the hospital getting stitches on his left eye-brow.

Even with a bowler short, New Zealand who had scored 280 in the first innings dismissed Pakistan for 210 and won the game by 70 runs.

This added to the injury woes of New Zealand as Mitchell McClenaghan is the fourth player after Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum and Tim Southee are on the injured list.
