Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was recently honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi. The veteran wicket-keeper batsman attended the ceremony organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in his Army uniform.

Many of the former Indian cricketers as well his current teammates wished the veteran for being honoured with the prestigious title. The Indian Women’s team captain Mithali Raj also congratulated Dhoni for the massive achievement through a remarkable message on Twitter.

This is surely a very proud moment for every Indian: Mithali

Dhoni was awarded with the respectable honour because of his extraordinary and splendid contribution to Indian cricket in his entire cricketing career so far. He has marked many astonishing landmarks in his captaincy career and the three ICC Trophies which India has won under his leadership are some of the evident symbols of Dhoni’s supremacy as one of the finest captains in the history of the game.

Mithali feels that the former Indian captain absolutely deserved this honour and this should be a very proud moment for every Indian and not just the sporting fraternity. “Congratulations @msdhoni – truly well deserved. A proud moment not just for the sports fraternity, one for every Indian. Heartwarming” wrote Mithali on Twitter in her wishes for MS Dhoni.

Dhoni took the seat in the event dressed in his army uniform and when his name was announced he stood up and marched like a typical army man. He followed the right decorum – saluted the President who is the commander of all the armed forces as he approached the chair. The first citizen of India then put the badge on his uniform and also handed him the letter stating the same.

Another sportsman receives the Padma Bhushan

Along with the Indian cricketer, World Champion Snooker and Billiards player Pankaj Advani were also awarded with the Padma Bhushan title this year. He has been the ace in this particular sport not just for the country but very few have managed to get the better of him around the world.
