Mithali Raj spills the beans on how she finally managed to win the coin toss

South African allrounder Sune Luus had posted a picture on social media while she was tossing the coin and captioned it ‘Tails never fails’. Well, seems it didn’t work for Indian skipper Mithali Raj, who consecutively lost six coin tosses before she finally managed to win in the third and final ODI of the three-match ODI series against England.

Not only Mithali won the toss, but she also helped India win the game by scoring an unbeaten 75. The perfectionist that the 38-year-old is, she also tried to get the coin toss in her favor by practicing with her team members on an off day.

In a video uploaded by BCCI women on Twitter, the Indian ODI and Test skipper can be seen along with fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, discussing how Mithali was confident, and was backed by her teammates to win the toss against England skipper Heather Knight. Turns out, the right-hand batter along with squad members were all practicing to get a perfect 10 on 10 with regards to winning the toss is concerned.

India opener Priya Punia and Goswami got the majority of the toss right, while Mithali struggled in the practice situations too.

Mithali Raj back at the top of the IC rankings

There is no doubt that team India ODI skipper is aging like fine wine. She is 38, but is still the woman for crises in the team. Barring Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, other batters struggled against England, but Mithali stood tall and scored three fifties in the series. With that brilliant performance, she is back at the top of the rankings in the ODI format.

She dispelled hard-hitting South African opener, Lizelle Lee, from the top and jumped four positions to be in the Numero Uno position. Although there was criticism in the way she batted, the 38-year-old managed to hold the innings together in an otherwise crumbling middle-order line-up.

Mithali will now get a much-needed break from the game and will return to India, as she has retired from the T20 internationals. But for now, she can savor being the World’s best-ranked batter.
