England all-rounder Moeen Ali is currently struggling with his spinning finger in the ongoing Ashes series down under. The visitors are lagging by 0-2 in the five-match rubber and they have to win the next Test in Perth to stay alive and retain the urn. But an injury to their main spinner has not helped their cause as Nathan Lyon as bowled beautifully at the same time. However, in one of the bizarre suggestions, Ali has been advised to use urine in order to heal the finger injury.

The left-handed batsman struggled to even spin the bowl in the helpful conditions at the Gabba in Brisbane during the first Ashes Test. He was not even effective in Adelaide and it is imperative for England that he becomes fit to have any chance of defeating Australia in Perth. The other spin bowler in the squad is a young 20-year-old Mason Crane who is yet to play a Test in his career.

Moeen confident of a good show in Perth

Moeen Ali is currently leading England in the two-day warm-up game against Cricket Australia XI in Perth but will restrain himself from bowling in the match. “People have been telling me to put all sorts of things from putting olive oil on it to ‘weeing’ (to urinate) on it! That is a myth I think and no I haven’t done – that cannot be right! But you don’t know whether to soften it or toughen it up,” he informed while speaking to British media.

He was also disappointed for letting the skipper Joe Root at crucial junctures in the first two matches. “You obviously feel like you have let the team down and the captain especially, and while I’ve done that before in the past when [Alastair] Cook was captain it is not an easy thing. The injuries have played a part, especially in the first game – there was a time in Brisbane when I couldn’t feel the ball in my fingers it was so sore. But in Adelaide I was fine,” Ali added.

Though the 30-year-old was confident of bowling well in the third Test as the time off from the game would help in healing his finger. “With a bit more time off it will be fine for Perth and I do believe I can bowl better for the team and turn it around,” he concluded.
