The England players haven’t had a good history with the Indian Premier League. There have been very few players in the past who have played for IPL franchises and the England Cricket Board too did not encourage its players to take part in the tournament. The franchises preferred to go with West Indians or Australians as they found them to be better-limited overs players.
Since 2015, England cricket team has undergone a major overhaul and it has become one of the best-limited overs sides in the world. English players have improved their white ball game which has resulted in more players getting picked for T20 tournaments around the world. There have been a lot of English players involved in the current edition of the IPL and they have done quite well. Players like Jos Buttler, Sam Billings and Ben Stokes have played their part in helping their franchises.
A handy player
Moeen Ali, the English allrounder was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 auction. He did not get a game in the initial phase of the tournament. Ali seemed to have grabbed his chances with both hands as he played a crucial knock of 65 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad to ensure that RCB post a massive total on board. He says that his time in the IPL with RCB will help him to evolve as a player.
“I have really worked on my game and I feel going further in the future for RCB and for England, hopefully, it will help me become a better one-day player. Hopefully, it is going to improve my game,” Ali was quoted as saying by sportskeeda.com. The allrounder credits his improvement to RCB support staff, Gary Kirsten and Trent Woodhill.
RCB posted a massive total of 218 on board and it was too big an ask for SRH. Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey kept their side in the hunt but they failed to take their team home. RCB won the match by 14 runs to keep their playoff hopes alive. The introduction of Moeen Ali has brought the much-needed balance into the side and RCB will be hoping that he keeps delivering in the same way.
