Veteran Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir has been one of the mainstays of the Pakistani bowling lineup for quite some time now. Ever since his comeback to international cricket, Amir has seen an upward curve in his career timeline. He has been rewarded with multiple accolades on multiple occasions. Recently, he added another feather to his illustrious hat of achievements.

In the ESPNcricinfo Annual Awards of 2017, Mohammad Amir bagged the award for the Best Bowling Performance of the Year 2017. He received the prestigious award for his match-winning spell against team India in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Team Pakistan were the underdogs in the competition.

At the same time, the Indian team had entered the competition as the tournament favorites. The way team India had beaten Pakistan in the first group game of both the side, it seemed that the Men in Green would be outplayed in the finals of the competition by the same side. However, much to the surprise of all cricket critics, it was Pakistan who emerged victorious on the night of the finals.

Team India were set a huge target of 339 to win. During the course of the tournament, it was the Indian top order – Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli – who had done the bulk of the scoring. Hence, in the finals, the trio was expected to deliver the goods for the Men in Blue. But Mohammad Amir had other plans.

Amir sent Rohit Sharma packing for a duck in the very first over of the game. In his next over, he accounted for the dismissal of the big fish, Virat Kohli, on just 5. Later, he dismissed Shikhar Dhawan on 21. His fiery spell first up with the new ball saw him finish with figures of 3/16 in the 6 overs that he bowled. He bowled two maidens on the night.

Team India bundled out for a mere 158 and Pakistan won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. And now, that bowling spell has won another award for Amir. Interestingly, the Best Batting Performance of the Year went to Fakhar Zaman for his 114 in the very same final game.

Here is what Mohammad Amir tweeted after receiving the award:

“Allhamdulilah got best ODI bowling performance of the year award,” Mohammad Amir wrote in his tweet.
