Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir is all set to try his hands at the new ‘shortest’ format of the game. Amir will be seen playing for the Maratha Arabians in the inaugural edition of the T10 Cricket League. On the sidelines of the tournament, Amir spoke at length about the prospect of playing in the tournament. He also spoke about the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli.
Kohli and Amir share great camaraderie off the field. The two players have often hailed one another as the masters of the game. Recently, when Kohli got married, Amir had sent his good wishes for him. Now, as per the quotes in Khaleej Times, Amir has again congratulated the newly-wed couple of Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma.
“I’m so happy for him. I also congratulated him and I wish him in his life’s new innings. Like he made a name for himself in cricket, I wish and pray to Allah that he is successful in his new life and Allah gives both of them a good life and all the happiness. I also pray Allah protects them from evil eyes. When a lot of eyes are on you, a lot of people’s evil eyes could be on you. But I pray that Allah helps them in this new journey,” quoted Mohammad Amir.
On playing the T10 Cricket League
Speaking about the format of the T10 League, Mohammad Amir expressed his excitement for the same. He remarked that it will be a new experience for the players. When asked to cite who will find it tougher, Amir mentioned that it will be tough for both batsmen and the bowlers. He remarked that considering the very few overs in hand, the batsmen will get under pressure after just one dot ball.
“I’m quite excited about the T10 because it is a new experience. Let’s see what happens. I think it will be tough for both batsmen and the bowlers because the bowler has to think about each and every ball that he is going to bowl. And for a batsman, even a dot ball would be pressure for his team. He would have to think how to get the runs. So, I feel it will be challenging for both,” said Amir.
“My first thoughts were this would be a batsman’s game. But I thought long and hard and felt that it could be challenging for both. If I bowl one dot ball, the batsman is then under a bit of pressure. And if I concede a boundary, the pressure is on the bowler. So, it is a test of your skills. You just cannot say it is a batsman’s game or a bowler’s game. It is about skills,” he added.
On playing alongside Virender Sehwag
Speaking further on the same note, Mohammad Amir noted that he is excited to train under his childhood idol Wasim Akram. Also, playing alongside a legendary player like Virender Sehwag is a fun prospect for Amir. He is looking forward to the tournament.
“I’m very, very excited about the things I can learn from him over the four days. He has been my idol forever and I’m happy to have got the opportunity to learn from him. No doubt it will be fun. Viru bhai is one of the greatest players to have played for India and it would be a wonderful experience to play alongside him,” mentioned Mohammad Amir.
