The discarded Pakistan bowler Mohammad Asif has cleared that he doesn’t feel dejected for not being recalled to the national side. He is performing exceedingly well in the domestic circuit currently but the selectors have continued to ignore him. Asif was one of the suspended players by ICC who was caught in the spot-fixing probe during England tour for bowling deliberate no-balls during the Test match. However, only Mohammad Amir has made a successful comeback since then with Salman Butt also struggling to find a place.
Asif, before being suspended, was one of the best swing bowlers in the world as he used to run-through any batting line-up in helpful conditions. But his career was derailed since his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing was proved. Though he has been trying his level best to return to the side with amazing performances with the ball but has failed to do so.
I am ready to serve my country
Mohammad Asif has said that he is currently enjoying his cricket completely and not thinking about his national selection. “Why should I be disappointed? I am enjoying my cricket. It is something that is not in my hands but whenever there is a call I will certainly be ready to serve my country,” he said while speaking to The Dawn when asked if he feels dejected after being ignored time and again.
Pakistan is currently in New Zealand for the limited-overs leg of their tour as Asif has adviced the bowling attack to bowl within the stumps to be successful in the country. While recalling his performance in 2009 he said, “I got nine wickets in Wellington Test which Pakistan won. Our fast bowlers will have to bowl within the stumps as tracks there are bouncy and ball is delivered at a certain height except for one or two grounds [in New Zealand] where low bounce is seen.”
The veteran also heaped huge praises on the best bowler of 2017, Hasan Ali. “On the whole, he is doing well and bowls the ball within stumps. This is key and he has to maintain the same quality in New Zealand. Besides we have a coach in Azhar Mahmood who has a lot of experience of playing in New Zealand and Australia. I am sure Azhar will be giving some fine tips to the bowlers,” he added. But he also didn’t forget to suggest the coach Mickey Arthur that a good blend of experience and youth will do wonders to the team’s fortunes.
