Mohammad Azharuddin approaches Hyderabad police to lodge a complaint

Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has recently approached Hyderabad Police to lodge a complaint against a person responsible for circulating derogatory messages against Azhar on an instant messaging app. Azhar, who is also a former Congress Member of Parliament from Moradabad, contacted the Commissioner of Hyderabad Police M Mahendar Reddy past week.

Mohd. Azharuddin desired that the police took appropriate action against the people responsible for posting and circulating these derogatory messages against him. However, the Deputy Commissioner of Police under Task Force B Limba Reddy claimed that no case has been lodged until now in connection with the matter. This was due to the fact that the messages on the app did not include the provisions of the Information Technology act.

“He (Azhar) can file a defamation case if he wants to,” quoted the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) B Limba Reddy according to reports from DNA.

The DCP disapproved the reports in a section of the media here that Masood Khan, the legal counsel of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, was questioned in connection with the defamatory messages against the former cricketer, saying, “Nothing like that.”

Azharuddin has been one of the controversial entity in Indian cricket. In 2000, Azharuddin was implicated in a cricket match-fixing scandal. As a result, the stylish wristy right hander was banned for life by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. However, in 2012, his ban was lifted by the Andhra Pradesh High Court describing it as “unsustainable”.

Overall in his cricketing career, he has represented India in as many as 99 Tests and 334 ODIs. MS Dhoni recently surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin’s tally of 9378 runs in ODI cricket. Recently, a Bollywood movie was made which depicted the life of the most controversial captain of Indian cricket. Emraan Hashmi portrayed the role of Azhar in the movie.
