The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) was recently in news for the audit report of submitted to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by audit firm Deloitte. It unveiled shocking financial wrong doings and the report was submitted to the Lodha panel and the Supreme Court of India. All this, weeks ahead of the HCA elections; on December 24 members will vote to appoint the president, secretary and other office bearers of the HCA. One of the big names who has filed his nomination is former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin.

Azharuddin wishes to get into cricket administration and will contest for the president’s position. “Yes, I will be contesting the president’s post. It was going through my mind for quite some time now. And I have decided to contest. Ladenge toh president ke liye he ladenge, dekho aage sab kaisa jaata hai,” Azhar was quoted by The Indian Express as saying.

But his candidature will need to be cleared by the BCCI’s working committee. Azhar who was banned by the BCCI won an 11-year long battle in the court to get back some of his lost honor. The Andhra Pradesh High Court in its verdict had termed the ban ‘unsustainable.’

Earlier this year, a biopic on his life also hit the Box Office and though it did decent business was criticized for glorifying the cricketer and not highlighting enough of his game. After the release of the movie also title “Azhar” when a journalist told him that he was a huge fan the stylish Hyderabadi said, “I don’t have many fans left,”

He also pointed out that people forgot how good a batsman he was and often he is complemented for being a good fielder. “Whenever I go out, people don’t ask me about my batting but always say ‘Azhar sahab aap bahut ache fielder the’. But I remind them that I used to bat decently too,” he had said.
