Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin had chosen Kapil Dev to be the player that he would like to watch from his era playing in the Indian Premier League(IPL). Both these cricketers have played a massive part in India’s rise in the cricketing world in the 1990s and especially, Kapil is considered to be the best all-rounder India has ever produced. With more than 9000 international runs across formats and 687 wickets, Kapil had a fantastic career for India.

In fact, Kapil led India to their famous first-ever World Cup victory in 1983 and it has been portrayed as the best moment in Indian cricket history. His 175 not out in ODIs was the highest individual score in ODI at that period and is certainly ranked among the greatest knocks by Indian cricket. Indeed, Kapil was in a different league among the players of the group and he is a perfect example for the upcoming all-rounders in the current generation.

Mohammad Azharuddin names Kapil Dev in a fun Q&A session

Azharuddin was questioned on Twitter by a popular fan of the cricketer from his era that he would like to see in IPL. Azharuddin picked Kapil for his all-around ability to watch in IPL which is considered to be the best cricket league going around in the world. With the IPL franchises increasingly looking out for all-rounders, Kapil would have made been very handy in terms of the right balance in the side and his lusty blows at the back end of the innings could certainly add as an advantage.

“One player from past whom you would have loved to watch in IPL?” a popular fan on Twitter had asked Azharuddin.

“Kapil Dev. All-round ability.” Azhar replied.

Azharuddin had a similar kind of impact in the middle order for India but rather was more of a batter. His captaincy record was amazingly good when compared to his previous captains in the past and he set the tone for the likes of Sourav Ganguly to conquer nations around the world. He played 99 Tests and 334 ODIs for India in his international career and hit 29 centuries alongside 79 half-centuries as well.
