Indian pace bowler Mohammad Shami is all set to take the field for Bengal in finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017. The finals will be played against Tamil Nadu on Monday. The talented speedster had earlier played one of the league match fixtures in the tournament for Bengal. However, he was subsequently rested from the matches that followed so that he could regain full fitness before taking the field again.

As per the quotes in News18, one of the senior Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officials have confirmed the news of his participation in the tournament finals. “Yes, the good news is that Mohammed Shami is available for the final match. He has joined the Bengal squad in the evening today,” quoted the CAB official.

The national selection committee chairman MSK Prasad, along with the two other selectors in the panel – Sarandeep Singh and Devang Gandhi – are also expected to watch the final encounter of Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Feroze Shah Kotla in Delhi. They will be keeping a close eye on Mohammad Shami in the match as they have to assess his fitness for the upcoming Deodhar Trophy and the Indian Premier League. The Delhi Daredevils camp, the franchise that Shami plays for, will also be hopeful that the pacer gets in full flow in the match.

Talking about the tournament history, the Bengal pacer has fond memories. He was a part of the squad that had won the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2012 and it was his performances in the tournament that had fetched him a national call up. This time again, the tournament might see the second coming of Mohammad Shami.

Bengal will play Tamil Nadu in the finals who have looked consistent thus far. Tamil Nadu batsman Dinesh Karthik is confident about his side doing well and at the same time has quoted Bengal to be a competitive outfit.

“Bengal are a fantastic side and I would not like to believe that Tamil Nadu are favourites tomorrow. The best part is that we have had players who have performed throughout the tournament,” Karthik quoted on the eve of the finals.
