Indian bowler Mohammed Shami missed out on all of the four Test matches against Australia due to persistent injuries but is now eyeing the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for getting back to his rhythm. The Bengal quick has not played for India since the third Test against England in November. But he is a standout bowler for India, whose knee injury left him out of the international games.

Shami had joined the team in Dharamsala, and also bowled in the Indian nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru during the second Test. Indian team physio Patrick Farhat has been monitoring his fitness closely. However, Shami is disappointed on having missed out on so many games.

He wanted to unleash in the series but injury pulled him back from taking the field right through the series despite playing a Vijay Hazare Trophy game he wasn’t fit enough to play a Test match. “I was always willing to have a go at the Aussies but unfortunately my injury stopped me. Hopefully, I will get back to full fitness and make a comeback in the Indian team,” he said.

The fast bowler is focused on getting back to his rhythm soon.

“To perform or not entirely depends on God Almighty. But, yes it is good that I have got an opportunity to test my fitness. It is nice that I can assess my bowling in the IPL. I will get a good platform to get my rhythm back. I will try and get back to my rhythm with the white ball,” Shami told the reporters.

He also acknowledged Virat’s gesture to carry drinks in the Dharamsala Test.

“What more can you ask from the captain?  In-spite of injury, Virat carried drinks bottle for his team-mates. To me that shows how involved he is as captain.” Shami added.

Mohammed Shami was not just physically unfit but was also under a fair bit of mental stress of late after the untimely demise of his father two months ago.
