In any format of the game, the fielders play a crucial part in determining the fate of the match. Any catch dropped by a fielder in a tense situation can damage the chances of a win for the side. On the other hand, if a player is successful in taking a blinder, the team on the field gets a big boost and can dominate in the match.

It also depends on what fielding position a particular player is standing in determining how many chances he will have to grab a catch. Generally in T20Is, the teams prefer to put their best fielders at those positions on the boundary line where he is most likely to take a catch. Most of the time it is either long-on or long-of positon.

In this article, we will be listing out 5 players who have grabbed the most catches in IPL history:

5. Ravindra Jadeja 97 catches

The CSK all-rounder is in the fifth spot among the players with most catches in IPL history. Jadeja has played for four teams in the tournament and has grabbed 97 catches in as many as 226 matches, making his catch per innings tally to 0.431.

4. Rohit Sharma – 98 catches

Rohit Sharma, being the captain of his side in IPL, is mostly seen fielding inside the circle. He has taken 98 catches in the 243 games he has played so far. He holds the record for winning the most titles in the cash-rich league as a captain. His catch per innings ratio of 0.403 is still decent given that he fields mostly at those positions where there are fewer chances of taking a catch.

3. Kieron Pollard – 103 catches

The West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has time and again surprised everyone with his incredible catches near the boundary ropes. His height also helps him in plucking up catches for fun, and this is the reason why he is mostly seen fielding at the long-on or long-off region. He has taken 103 catches in the 189 innings of the league till now with a ratio of 0.545.

2. Virat Kohli – 106 catches

Highest run-scorer in IPL history, Virat Kohli has played only for one franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inception of IPL in 2008. He recently completed another century of 100 catches (106 total) in the league. These catches have come in 235 innings, which makes his catch per innings ratio 0.451.

1. Suresh Raina – 109

Suresh Raina is considered among the greatest fielders in Indian cricket history. With 109 catches in IPL, he is the only the second player to grab over 100 catches in the cash-rich league. Raina has played most of his IPL matches for Chennai Super Kings and led the Gujarat Lions team when the former was banned for two years. He has a catch per innings ratio of 0.534 in a total of 204 innings he has featured on the field.
