S Sreesanth, the Indian fast bowler is rated as one of the most controversial players ever played for India in international cricket. Now, he has come out with another interesting statement that the majority of the players in the team stayed away from him except Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman during his rough patch in past years.

The 37-year-old speedster was handed with a lifetime ban from the BCCI for having an involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. However, in 2019, the Supreme Court shortened his sentence to seven years as there were no proofs available against him.

Sreesanth said things improved in the last couple of years

In an interview to India Today, Sreesanth said that many players in the national side always avoided him in the public. As per him, only Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman were in touch with him while he was going through a dark phase. The Kerala-born cricketer added that he was well aware of the reason behind the behaviour of the players due to which he also never made an effort. But in the last couple of years, things have improved for him.

The right-handed pacer recited that he even met Harbhajan Singh at the airport. Moreover, the fast bowler also told Bhajji that he is going to use the bats manufactured by his company once he is back in the game.

“Now, I do speak to many players. I spoke to Sachin (Tendulkar) paaji recently on Twitter. Viru (Sehwag) paaji, we keep messaging each other and Gautam (Gambhir), I met him recently. Publicly, most of the players used to avoid me except for Viru bhai, Laxman bhai and just three-four others would stay in touch with me. I also understood their apprehensions and I also didn’t make an effort to engage with them as there were court proceedings going on against me.

“But then things improved in a couple of years. I met Bhajju pa at the airport not too long ago and I told him when I start playing cricket I will use the bat manufactured by Bhajji Sports,” told Sreesanth.
