The Pakistan Super League 2017 was a success from the start to the end and has been a tournament to remember. We witnessed a thrilling battle among 5 franchises with Peshawar Zalmi emerging victorious defeating the Quetta Gladiators.

But the tournament saw a lot of obstacles as many foreign and popular names backed out from the tournament on crucial occasions due to security reasons and other issues. The grand finale also came under threat as some big guns withdrew just before the final and Lahore was already a bruised city because of some recent bombings around the city.

Englishman Dawid Malan was among the handful of overseas players along with Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Rayad Emrit, Elton Chigumbura, Morne Van Wyk and a few others who made it to the city in spite of safety issues. Dawid Malan was a special case as he opted to feature in the final despite objection from his mother.

“Once I heard about the security arrangements I was pretty keen to go,” said Malan, in an interview to The Times. “But my mum wasnt particularly happy and, although Middlesex and the ECB were relaxed about me making my own mind up, I had to sign a disclaimer in case anything happened.”

Fellow Englishman Chris Jordan also went for the final along with Dawid. Malan, however, does not regret his decision and said he was more than happy to be a part of the final infront of 22000 cricket fans in the Gaddafi Stadium.

Malan also praised the full proof security measures that were taken which included three layers of security check. New scanning and CCTV devices were installed to prevent any type of disturbance. Pakistan’s paramilitary force Rangers were also a part of the security providing full support while the security were spread over two kilometres from the ground.
