Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was today honoured with the Padma Bhushan by the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi. He attended the ceremony organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in his Army uniform. MS Dhoni an honorary lieutenant colonel in the territorial army wears this uniform with a lot of pride.

Two sportsmen were picked for the Padma Bhushan this year. The first name was that of World Champion, Snooker and Billiards player Pankaj Advani. He has been the ace in this particular sport not just for the country but very few have managed to get the better of him around the world. After he accepted the award from the president the next announcement was made.

For his extraordinary contribution to Indian cricket, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was selected for the honour. He was sitting there in his army uniform and when his name was announced he stood up and marched like a typical army man. He followed the right decorum – saluted the President who is the commander of all the armed forces as he approached the chair.

The first citizen of India then put the badge on his uniform and also handed him the letter stating the same. Then again Dhoni saluted the President before marching his way back.

Proud looking Sakshi

Dhoni’s better half Sakshi was also present at the Rashtrapati Bhavan along with all the dignitaries from the central government and others who gave a huge round of applause from the moment he got up till the time he was done.

The 37-year-old has always stated that he values his position in the army and doesn’t just treat it as one for the namesake. Whenever Dhoni has had substantial time in hand, he has either trained with his regiment or spent time with the jawans in other parts of the country.

He had in the past also stated that after retiring as a professional cricketer he would like to serve the Indian Army.
