Even before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Chepauk witnessed thousands of fans in its stands thanks to MS Dhoni. Chennai Super Kings started their training session for this year’s IPL from March 2 and their captain Dhoni was undoubtedly the biggest attraction at the camp. Every day thousands of fans arrived at the stadium to watch their beloved Thala train.

Dhoni has not played any competitive game since the end of the World Cup in July last year. As soon as the competition ended, he took a sabbatical from the game which is yet to end. Apart from Dhoni, the likes of Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay and Ambati Rayudu and several others were also training for the new season.

But on Friday, the training session came to an abrupt end because of the coronavirus pandemic. Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) released a statement confirming that the training session has been suspended as a precautionary measure in the wake of the outbreak which has affected sporting events all across the globe.

And before leaving Chepauk for his home in Ranchi, MS Dhoni made sure to interact with his fans and his teammates at the Chepauk. Super Kings took to Twitter to share a video of Dhoni where he could be seen interacting with the ground staff, fans and others. He also signed autographs for his fans. “It has become your home sir!” Keep whistling, as #Thala Dhoni bids a short adieu to #AnbuDen,” Super Kings captioned the video.

IPL important for Dhoni

MS Dhoni and his fans would be praying that the IPL starts as soon as possible. The IPL will mark the return of the former India skipper to action. Not only that, but it would also possibly decide his future in international cricket. A good IPL campaign would put him in contention for the T20 World Cup later this year. On the other hand, if the IPL does not take place due to the outbreak or he fails to deliver if it takes place, the chances of MS Dhoni returning to the team will be very slim.
