Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has advocated that incumbent Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni can still be a finisher for the Indian team in spite of the fact that he has promoted himself up the order to the number four position. Ganguly also revealed that Virat Kohli could also be a finisher despite coming in to bat at number three.

In recent times, MS Dhoni has seen his ability to finish matches off become a massive problem. He has not been able to finish matches off with the big hits many believe that he is capable of. Moreover, in the penultimate ODI, the 35-yar old utilized 31 deliveries to score just the 11 runs. What’s worse is the fact that the India skipper has revealed that he believes that his skill as a finisher is diminishing.

Sourav Ganguly, the southpaw who gave the Indian team a lot to rejoice with his supremely impressive time as India skipper said that the concept of being the finisher was something that many had gotten wrong in recent times. He also went on reveal that a finisher is not someone who comes in at the 40th over and smashes the ball to different parts of the ground.

The 43-year old also stated that he believed that Virat Kohli was one of those players who could make his way to the side and finish games off at will.

“Let him play at number four. He will finish from there. Finisher does not mean he has to bat from the 40th over. Virat (Kohli) bats at three and he is finishing games. It’s a wrong concept that a finisher has to come lower down the order. Dhoni got India over the ropes in the other match batting at four,” Ganguly said on the sidelines of Cricket Association of Bengal’s tie up with VLCC today.

“He (Virat Kohli) is an excellent player, but I don’t think the team is becoming too dependent on him. New Zealand is a good side. They will win some matches also,” he said.
