Watch: MS Dhoni celebrates his 200 ODI sixes with a humongous maximum

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni once again showcased his midas touch, this time against Eoin Morgan’s England side. Dhoni brought up his 10th ODI hundred and also became the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to score 4000 ODI runs at home. The right-handed batsman banged a total of 6 sixes and 10 fours, on his way to 134.

Finisher Dhoni took on Chris Woakes in the 43rd over. Batting on 93, he connected a full-toss only to find the cables. The umpire called it a dead ball, as the ball hit the wires of the spidercam. Alex Hales, standing near the boundary was not very impressed, as he thought he could have got it under his throat. But there was no stopping the man in form.

Dhoni towered a huge one off Woakes’ on the very next delivery, which also turned out to be the 200th six of his ODI career. The ball almost sailed past the top most stand, as Dhoni’s sheer muscle power was in the offering. He reached his hundred couple of deliveries later, as India were very much set in the driving seat.

For the records, during India’s onslaught of notching up their gigantic score, India have set a unique world record in ODI cricket. The score of 381/6 represented the 23rd time Team India went past 350 in ODIs, making it the most by any team. Before the Cuttack ODI, India were level headed with South Africa for the most 350-plus scores in cricket with 22 each.

India produced their first 350-plus score in ODIs during the 1999 World Cup match against neighbors Sri Lanka in Taunton.  It was the same match in which Sourav Ganguly (183) and Rahul Dravid (145) scored centuries and shared a record 318-run stand. India produced yet another fine show in the same year against New Zealand in Hyderabad, in which Sachin Tendulkar (186*) and Dravid (153) were involved in a 331-run stand, taking India to 376/2.
