Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman and veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has voiced their support towards MS Dhoni and the duo believes that the former Indian skipper will play a vital role in the 2019 World Cup. But Harbhajan feels that Dhoni will have to keep performing in a consistent manner to keep his spot safe in the Indian limited overs side. Dhoni was impressive during the tour to Sri Lanka, earlier this year but he failed to deliver the finishing touch during the series against New Zealand.

Harbhajan said that experience is valuable but the most important thing is form. Bhajji believes that Dhoni will have to keep performing as the World Cup is still far away. And with so many promising youngsters coming up the ranks, there is no certainty.

“One year is a lot and in Indian cricket, there are a lot of changes every day. Experience is there but form and everything matters. Dhoni is a big player but (the) World Cup is far off and Dhoni has to keep performing to be a part of the 11,” said Harbhajan.

Kohli is giving the right opportunities to Dhoni: Laxman

However, Laxman is confident that Dhoni will be a part of the playing eleven in England and complimented the Indian skipper Virat Kohli for the rapport he shares with Dhoni since Kohli took over the captaincy. “I don’t think Kohli is protecting Dhoni. He’s above all that and he has a very important role to play in the 2019 World Cup. Kohli is handling Dhoni very well; much like (how) Sourav handled Sachin when he resigned from captaincy,” Laxman said to Aaj Tak.

“Kohli is giving the right opportunities to MS Dhoni and he takes help from him. He has no ego and I feel Dhoni will have to play a huge hand,” he added.
