Former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke has often been seen lauding the Indian cricketers in the recent times. He has been very vocal about his opinions on star Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. A few days earlier, Clarke had noted that Dhoni must score runs in order to prove his worth to the team. This had come at a time when most pundits of the game were doubting the credibility of the former Indian skipper.

Recently, Dhoni slammed all critics with his sublime unbeaten knock of 61 that came off just 34 deliveries against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He took his team through in the stiff run chase and showed why he is regarded as one of the best finishers in world cricket. As per the quotes in India Today, Michael Clarke spoke at length about his opinions of Dhoni. He remarked that he was not surprised with the way Dhoni guided RPS home. He reflected that as long as Dhoni is at the crease, opposition team cannot take a sigh of relief.

“I am not surprised one bit, as long as MS Dhoni is at the crease, the game is never over. I felt it as the captain of the Australia playing against MS Dhoni, and I feel exactly the same as a commentator now. The man has played a phenomenal inning and deserves all the credit he is getting. Hopefully, the people that were doubting him, hopefully, they are gone away now,” said Michael Clarke.

Adding further, he lauded the innings played by MSD. He believes that the knock was the perfect way to shut the mouths of all the critics of the former RPS skipper. There were questions regarding his place in the RPS setup. Some even doubted whether Dhoni should be on the roster for the Champions Trophy later this year. Clarke has rightly noted that all critics would want to take their words back now.

The former Australian captain remarked that Dhoni seized the opportunity with both hands when he got it on the day. He made it a point to make the innings count and used all his skills to the best possible use on the day.

“What an innings by MS Dhoni and for the people that have doubted him and said that his time is up, he is not good enough to be in the Pune team or the Indian Champions Trophy team. I think that it is time to take their words back. I have said time and again over the last couple of weeks that class is permanent and MS Dhoni is a class player,” the former Australian captain quoted.

“I think today was great example of his experience playing a part. Yes he is skillful, there is no doubt about it and his keeping has been fantastic throughout the tournament. Today he got the chance with the bat to win the game for his team as he has done throughout his career,” he added further.

Michael Clarke was then asked to pick his all time best finisher of the game. The likes of Michael Bevan have often been regarded as the supreme finisher of world cricket. However, Clarke named Dhoni to be the one. He cited the fact that Dhoni has managed to win so many matches for his team and that is something that makes him stand apart from the league of other finishers in the world.

“MS Dhoni is the best finisher in the world, and certainly in One Day cricket. He has done it throughout his One Day career and he can do it in T20s as well. Micheal Bevan was fantastic, but Dhoni has won numerous matches for his teams, Chennai, Pune, India, and he does it regularly and he still has the talent to do it,” quipped Clarke on being asked to name the best finished in the world.

Lastly, he hailed the smart move made by the RPS think tank to promote MS up the batting order. He quoted that coming in early in the batting order helps the veteran cricketer to settle down in the middle. Once a player of his calibre settles in, he can then dictate terms in the match as per his will.

“What I also liked is that Dhoni batting at number four. This has been my point about Dhoni for a long time in the Pune team. Allow him to come up the order, allow him to face more deliveries. Pune have made a smart decision in the last couple of games getting him in at number four,” Michael Clarke conceded further.
