After a sensational Test series victory over the Sri Lankans, India will lock horns against the Lions in 5 match One Day International Series. India Chief selector MSK Prasad declared the names of the players who are set to be a part of the squad when India puts on the coloured jersey. Senior cricketer Yuvraj Singh faced the axe for his recent struggle but Mahendra Singh Dhoni successfully earned his spot in the team. However, MSK Prasad made it clear that Dhoni is not an automatic choice in the team. The legendary skipper does not have a guaranteed place and his performance will be kept an eye upon. Prasad mentioned that the selection committee will track his performance in Sri Lanka just like the others.

What Prasad said:

“[MS] Dhoni is not an automatic choice,” Prasad said of Dhoni. “Let’s see how he [Dhoni] goes,” Prasad added.

By his statement, Prasad gave a clear indication that he is asking the power hitter to perform in the series if he wants to maintain his spot on the team. Prasad also highlighted the fact that Dhoni has been a monumental figure behind Team India’s success. He compared the batsman with Tennis legend Andre Agassi, whose career reached greater heights after crossing the age of 30.

“[Andre] Agassi’s real career only started after age 30. He won many tittles,” Prasad said.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been a phenomenon as a captain winning all the 3 ICC trophies during his reign. The number of times Dhoni has played a match winning knock cannot be counted as he established himself as one of greatest finishers the game of cricket has ever seen.

The ODI series will start from August 20th at Dambulla and will stretch till September 3rd, when the last match will be played in Colombo. the 50 over series will be followed by a T20 match which will take place on the 6th of September putting an end to the tour.
