The 3rd T201 between India and New Zealand at Thiruvananthapuram saw zest being added to the contest due to rain interruptions which curtailed the match to an 8-over a side affair. However, the time lost due to these interruptions may have been frustrating for the players.

During the pre-match show, it was seen that the likes of Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj and many others involved playing soccer of a different kind to keep themselves warmed up for the match.

India’s talismanic wicketkeeper-batsman, MS Dhoni invented a new kind of indoor sport during the delay, which may be known as soccer-volleyball. New Zealand batsmen Martin Guptill and Tom Bruce joined in to face off against MS Dhoni, KL Rahul and Manish Pandey.

Guptill posted a snippet of the indoor clash which saw the Indians take the upper hand and the Kiwis unable to keep up with the laws of the game. “What do you do in a rain delay? Play soccer volleyball with @tombruce42 @mahi7781 and @manishpandeyinsta!” captioned the post.

After winning the first match of the 3-match T20I series at Ferozshah Kotla, the Black Caps came back into the series with a thumping win at Rajkot. The 2nd match saw Colin Munro and Martin Guptill plummetting the Indian bowlers to all corners of the ground and Indians unable to chase down the target, thanks to some impressive bowling from Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi.

The win at Rajkot made the final match at Trivandrum all the more interesting as it turned out to be the decider. The patient spectators were treated to some riveting action which went down to the last couple of deliveries of the match. As a result, India won the T20I series by 2-1 with the help of their 6-run win at 50th International stadium for India.
