CSK were up against RCB in the last fixtures of the Indian Premier League in the UAE where they registered a clinical six-wicket victory over Virat Kohli and his men. In the same light, MS Dhoni and company have reached the top slot of the points table and are almost assured of playoffs berth. In this sequence, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has opened up on Dhoni’s batting order.

Gambhir added that if CSK qualifies for playoffs, the CSK skipper should promote himself in the batting order. It is known that Dhoni often comes at the sixth position or seventh position and promotes other players over him. The former cricketer added that it doesn’t matter whether CSK is chasing or batting first, Dhoni should come two wickets down.

“MS Dhoni should bat at No.4 once CSK qualifies for the playoffs, irrespective of whether you are chasing or batting first so that you are able to spend time in the middle. I will want to see that, hopefully it happens. The best thing about a captain is that it is his own wish, he can bat anywhere he wants,” stated Gautam Gambhir on Star Sports.

Gambhir further made a point that not always three and four no. batsmen will come and score runs and hence Dhoni should come over the top now. Even in CSK’s last game against RCB, he looked in fine touch and smashed a four too.

Your No.3 and No.4 will not always score runs: Gautam Gambhir

“Your No.3 and No.4 will not always score runs. You need to bat a little more. The more runs you score; it will keep getting easier. You will qualify for the playoffs but it should not happen that the responsibility falls on you, you lose early wickets and you have to come and score runs,” he added.

Talking about the game between CSK and RCB, RCB could post meager 156 runs on the board, CSK built a sturdy opening partnership and went on to win the game by six wickets. MS Dhoni and his men reached the top slot and are almost sure of playoffs.
