There has been a little bit of a mystery regarding MS Dhoni’s future at the international level. People had expected the veteran to quit international cricket after the 2019 Cricket World Cup. People were talking about giving him a dream farewell.

However, India lost the semi-final and that became Dhoni’s last international appearance till date. After this, the former Indian captain took a break from international cricket. Series after series, his fans waited for his comeback, but that didn’t happen.

With all this, people started hoping that ‘Mahi’ will turn up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2020. But, these were all speculations. What was sure, was the fact that Dhoni will surely play the IPL 2020. But, unfortunately, that has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

That being said, there is no certainty that the T20 World Cup will be played in this situation. However, there has been some positive news coming from Australia regarding the World Cup and COVID-19 situation. Amidst the conundrum, former chief selector MSK Prasad has said that MSD Dhoni should be called for the training camp for the T20 World Cup.

If I was a national selector, MS Dhoni will be in my team: MSK Prasad

“I don’t know whether the T20 World Cup is happening or not. If it is happening and you are just looking at the camp as a pre-cursor to the tournament, then MS should definitely be there. If it’s a case of bilateral, then you already have KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson,” Prasad said as quoted by India Today.

After Dhoni took a break from international cricket, the Indian team have tried Rishabh Pant mainly as their wicketkeeper. But, during the New Zealand tour, KL Rahul was handed over the gloves for the T20I series.

The Karnataka lad did well with the gloves and with the bat as well. Pant was sidelined for that series, but surely selectors will have him in their considering his track-record in the IPL.

MSK Prasad also went on to say that he would have picked Dhoni, had he been the national selector. He was recently replaced by Sunil Joshi as the chief selector.

“If I was a national selector, MS Dhoni will be in my team but the bigger question is that whether he wants to play or not. It’s what Dhoni wants at the end of the day,” he added.
