Usually, journalists are the ones who take digs at various cricketers, making them lose their cool over the issue. Be it anyone, once a journalist fires a question at him, he has to face it.
India’s limited overs skipper MS Dhoni also has been through similar situations. Most of the times he has been calm and provides a suitable answer. But, since the last year, Mahi’s behaviour with the press had been little different. Mainly due to the constant questions over his future, batting form and retirement planning.
He has, from time to time, denied retiring anytime soon. But, even the calmest ones lose their cool if people remain ignorant.
Most recently, India clinched a nervy win over Bangladesh to keep their semi-final hopes alive. It was a nail-biter, the captain himself played a huge role and ensured that the team ends up winning the game.
But, the jubilant skipper’s mood was instantly turned off by one question in the post-match presser.
Reporter: “Before the match, we were talking about a big win so that India can improve our net run-rate but look at how we just about managed to win. How satisfied you are with such a win? And second question… (Dhoni and the media manager interrupt him)
Just one [question] at a time,” the India skipper said firmly. “I know you aren’t happy that India won today.”
“Listen to me. Hearing you, your tone and your question, it’s clear that you aren’t happy that India has won.”
And, it seems MS Dhoni is still upset with the question that irked him after the thrilling win in Bangalore on Wednesday.
On Saturday, Dhoni took another dig at the media (photographers and a handful of reporters) who were covering Team India’s training session at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here on the eve of the Australia clash.
Minutes after the team finished playing football, Dhoni asked the media contingent, “cricket kheloge?” (would you like to play cricket?). There was no reaction from any media person so Dhoni shot back.
“Agar tum khel sakte, toh tum yahan hote aur hum wahan.” (If you could play cricket, you would be on the field while we would where you are). The media persons were clueless.
