MS Dhoni, the Indian veteran, has been on a sabbatical for almost seven months now. He hasn’t played any competitive cricket after the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The last time when he was seen on the field was when Martin Guptill ran him out with a stupendous direct-hit. There have been constant reports on his return, but nothing concrete.

Speculations surrounding when he will hang his boots from cricket have also been doing the rounds. It’s also not known whether or not he is in contention for a spot in Team India for the T20 World Cup in October-November. Most of the experts have had an opinion on him regarding his future. Even his childhood coach said that he wants Dhoni to continue until the world event later this year.

Dhoni to play IPL 2020

On the other hand, Dhoni’s parents want him to retire since they feel that India can’t handle the cricketer anymore. The Jharkhand-born is most likely to play in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the T20 league, Dhoni plies his trade for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK, the three-time champions. Last year, CSK made their way through to the final, but lost to Mumbai Indians.

N Srinivasan, the CSK owner, has confirmed Dhoni’s participation in the 2020 IPL. Moreover, he said that Dhoni’s name will be in the auction in 2021 and he will be retained. It means that the 38-year-old will play at least two seasons of the IPL from now onwards. As far as his future in India is concerned, MSK Prasad, the national chief selector, has iterated that the team has moved ahead of Dhoni.

After the World Cup, India have tried out Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and KL Rahul as the wicketkeeping options. In the meantime, he is making the most out of his free time. He is currently in Maldives, and was recently spotted, playing volleyball. While playing, he was seen, wearing a casual black vest and shorts. In the same trip, he and wife Sakshi is in the company of RP Singh and his better-half.
