India has produced some significant results in limited overs cricket lately. The No.2 ranked ODI team has been riding high after registering series wins in Australia and now New Zealand. However, the last game where India were bundled for 92 runs has certainly raised a few questions on the team’s middle order.
The likes of Dinesh Karthik and Ambati Rayudu are on the edge. Also with Rishabh Pant’s phenomenal show in the Test series, there’s more pressure on them to make it count in the limited opportunities. While Pant has been representing India A, chief Indian selector MSK Prasad hasn’t ruled out the wicketkeeper batsman’s prospects for the upcoming World Cup.
Rishabh Pant is very much in our World Cup plans
After the poor performance at Hamilton, Prasad continued to display confidence in the current batting lineup. He asserted that the team has a good mix of young blood and experience. “I have confidence in this team that we can chase bigger totals. We have a good blend of experience and exuberance of youth who play that fearless brand of cricket.”
There has been a lot of talk regarding Pant’s inclusion in the ODI team. Prasad stated that the 21-year-old’s performance was closely being monitored. He further praised the youngster for his stupendous performances. Pant scored 350 runs in the Test series against Australia.

MS Dhoni in all probability might be retiring after the 2019 World Cup. When asked if India has already sought a replacement for the veteran, Prasad remarked, “It’s just not about any particular individual but preparing a succession chart for the entire existing lot. And that is the most important aspect of our job.”
