The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the India squad for the ODI series against South Africa. It was surprising to see some of the big names missing out from the side. Among those big names, the names of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina are prominent ones. The chief selector MSK Prasad recently reasoned out why the veteran cricketers were left out.

Considering the tough series, it was expected that the experience of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina would come in handy for the series. However, the selectors stuck to the current squad that has been registering wins against several oppositions at home. Earlier, both Yuvraj and Raina had been missing out since they had not cleared the yo-yo tests.

However, now, both these cricketers have managed to clear the tests after several attempts at the test. As per the quotes in Sportskeeda, MSK Prasad affirmed that the fitness issues continued to have fitness issues. He expressed the fact that the team is happy to see him clear the test and he could have a good match time sometime soon.

“With Yuvraj Singh, there were also the fitness issues. I am happy that he has cleared that fitness test. Since he has not played cricket for quite some time, let him have a good match time. We will definitely see him in the times to come,” MSK Prasad quoted.

Raina’s lean patch

While Yuvraj has had fitness concerns, Suresh Raina has failed to strike runs with the bat. He played the entire season of Ranji Trophy for Uttar Pradesh this year. However, he could only muster 105 runs in 12 innings. He averaged less than 11.66 with a top score of 33. Hence, his numbers did not justify his claims of making a comeback to the side. Raina needs to up his game to claim a spot in the team now.
