Cape Town Blitz started off the Mzansi Super League with a big win in the opening game over Tshwane Spartans despite having a relatively thinner batting line-up. It was the partnership between Kyle Verreynne and Mohammad Nawaz that made the difference as the duo scored their maiden T20 fifties. The bowling managed to restrict the strong batting of the Tshwane that included AB de Villiers to just 130. Cape Town’s bowling will be strengthened with the inclusion of Dale Steyn.
Durban Heat will kick-start their MSL campaign at their home venue Kingsmead in Durban. They are led by Albie Morkel and have a couple of star International batsmen who won’t be available for this fixture due to the one-off T20I in Australia. The focus will be on Hashim Amla who has been away from the game for the last couple of months due to injury. The senior batsman wasn’t in the best of forms before he caught up a finger injury.
Match Details:
The 3rd match of the Mzansi Super League will be played between Durban Heat and Cape Town Blitz at the Kingsmead in Durban.
The match starts at 11:00 AM local time (9:00 AM GMT) (2:30 PM IST).
Pitch Condition/Report:
The Kingsmead in Durban hasn’t hosted a T20 game this year while only one of the six T20s played at this venue last year ended without a result. This makes it tough to predict how the pitch will play in the home team’s first game of the tournament. However, the recent T20 results at this venue indicate the chasing has an upper hand. Six of the last ten completed T20s were won by the teams batting second while two of the remaining four games were decided by a margin of five runs.

Probable XI:
Durban Heat:
Albie Morkel (C), Hashim Amla, Sarel Erwee, Temba Bavuma, Morne van Wyk, Khaya Zondo, Prenelan Subrayen, Vernon Philander, Kyle Abbott, Keshav Maharaj, Marchant de Lange.

Power Picks:
On his day, Sarel Erwee can be destructive in this format but he is quite inconsistent. Erwee scored 334 runs in his first five T20 innings in 2017 including an unbeaten 103 in Ram Slam T20 which was his maiden T20 hundred. However, the nine T20 innings since the ton yielded only 58 runs at an average of 6.44 with the best score of 19. Anrich Nortje is one of the quickest bowlers in the South African domestic circuit and he showed it during the opening match.
Best Playing XI:
Kyle Verreynne, Dawid Malan, Sarel Erwee, Temba Bavuma, Jason Smith, George Linde, Albie Morkel, Prenelan Subrayen, Kyle Abbott, Mohammad Nawaz, Dale Steyn.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Dawid Malan missed out on a big one in the first game but is expected to take an extra responsibility of a thin batting line-up. Mohammad Nawaz can be picked as the vice-captain due to his batting position. The Pakistan all-rounder does bowl his four overs. Dale Steyn has bowled well in the recent limited-overs matches and can be decisive in his first game of the tournament.
Expert Advice:
In his last eight innings across all formats, Hashim Amla has scored only 72 runs including five single-digit scores. Picking him will be a brave move given needs runs but at the same time, it will be a poor move given the recent trend.
Probable Winners:
Cape Town Blitz might continue with their winning momentum but Durban Heat can take a win even in the absence of key International stars.
