Mumbai announce 16-member squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy knockouts

Shreyas Iyer is also expected to join the team in the business end of the tournament.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018 has reached its knockout stages where the teams would now be battling out vigorously in the hunt for the coveted title. The group stages hosted some exciting matches where many of the experienced and young Indian domestic players put up a display of their skill. One of the strongest Indian domestic sides across, Mumbai has named a 16-member squad for the knockout stages.

From Group C, Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh are the two teams who have made it to the next level, leaving behind teams like Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Gujrat. The Aditya Tare led side won four out of their six matches in the group stages, finishing second in the group with 16 points to its tally. The knockout matches of the domestic tournament are scheduled to start on February 21, which will be played in Delhi.

Iyer returns from national duty to strengthen the batting line-up

Mumbai have named a strong batting line-up comprising of both their regular batsmen including the likes of Aditya Tare, Siddhesh Lad, Suryakumar Yadav, Akhil Herwadkar and Shreyas Iyer. Iyer will return from the national duty in South Africa after a spectacular 5-1 series win against the home side. He will join the team and help them in their claim for the title.

They have also included India’s Under-19 team skipper Prithvi Shaw who recently led the junior team to the glorifying title. He also scored a couple of fifties in the group stages and would be looking to continue his good form.

The bowling line-up will be led by right-arm quick Dhawal Kulkarni, who has the likes of medium pacer Akash Parkar for company to keep the opposition down and drying out the runs.
