Team India will next take on West Indies in a limited-overs series. The Virat Kohli-led side is currently playing Bangladesh and is gearing up for the historic day-night Test. The series will take place next month with both teams playing three T20Is as well as three ODIs. Both the teams had played a bilateral series year earlier this year too.

West Indies had hosted India for three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests right after the end of the World Cup. India had completely dominated the series, winning all the games barring one ODI which was washed out. India had hosted the Caribbean outfit last year too for a full-fledged series. As expected, India had dominated that series too.

Wankhede ODI in doubt

Just days ahead of the game, the T20I scheduled to take place at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is in doubt due to lack of security cover, according to Sporstar. The game will be the first international match in Mumbai in two years. Mumbai had lasted hosted an international game in 2017 which was a T20I between the hosts and Sri Lanka.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has convened an emergent apex council meeting on Thursday to discuss the next course of action. The MCA had to come into action after the Mumbai Police asked them to reschedule the match from December 6. The report claimed that the Mumbai police has formally conveyed it to MCA that they will be unable to provide security cover for the game on December 6.

The Mumbai police already have their hands full since December 6 is the death anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. On that day, lakhs of his followers head to Dadar to pay homage to their leader. In addition, December 6 is also the first anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition after the Ayodhya verdict, and the police do not want to take any chances.

The ball is now in MCA’s court and they need to take action quickly. An MCA official has stated that the association could request the BCCI for the match to be swapped with one of the other venues for the series.
