The selection panel led by MSK Prasad announced Team India squad for the upcoming Windies Tests last week. The team wore a new look to it with a lot of youngsters being given the chance for the first time. While Prithvi Shaw and Hanuma Vihari retained their place, the likes of Mayank Agarwal and Mohammed Siraj received their maiden call-ups to the national side in Tests. However, Murali Vijay was ignored who piled on the runs in County Cricket after being axed during the England Test series.
Vijay failed to impress in the first couple of Test matches while batting at the top of the order and subsequently lost his place in the side for the third game. He was also dropped from the team for his continuous failures for the remainder of the series and youngsters were included. Determined to make a comeback, the right-handed batsman joined Essex in order to resurrect his Test career.
There is more to life, says Vijay
Murali Vijay fared very well in the County Championship and went on to amass 323 runs in five innings at an average of 64.60. He managed to go past the 50-run mark four times and also converted one of those knocks into a big one which had raised his hopes to return to the team.
However, as it turned out, the selectors had seen enough of him and Shikhar Dhawan as both of them weren’t considered for the Test series against Windies. The only option for the duo now is to play domestic cricket in order to have any chance of earning their place back in the team.
Vijay, after being axed from the Test squad has come up with a cryptic message indirectly saying that there is more to life rather than the news of being dropped and also thanked his fans for the support and love they’ve showered on him during the tough times.
