Murali Vijay ruled out of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy

The Tamil Nadu opener has been ruled out after yet another shoulder injury.

Indian opener Murali Vijay hasn’t had the best of series against South Africa. He featured in all three games but wasn’t able to convert starts into big scores as he is accustomed to doing. Further, he returned home after suffering a 2-1 loss in the three-match Test series. He was then included in the Tamil Nadu squad for the premier one-day tournament the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

After featuring in the initial games, Murali Vijay is sidelined due to yet another shoulder injury which was caused in a game against Mumbai. It has been believed that eyeing to the shoulder injury Vijay will not feature in the remaining games of Tamil Nadu. Furthermore, neither the State selection committee, the team Physio nor the TNCA was aware of the injury.

Murali Vijay suffered another shoulder injury

In a statement released, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) official said, “The State Selection committee of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has replaced M. Vijay with Pradosh Ranjan Paul. This was after M. Vijay failed to report for today’s [Thursday’s] Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day Group ‘C’ league match against Mumbai due to shoulder pain which neither the State selection committee, the team Physio nor the TNCA was aware of.”

It is learned that the officials including the fitness issue to the coach, the captain, the physio or the selectors were not very happy hearing this information and to add to their morose they were informed by Murali Vijay at the last minute. In past, Murali Vijay had to miss a Test series against Sri Lanka due to the same problem, and took a while back before he made a return to the International arena. He scored back to back centuries against Sri Lanka in the second and the third Test which eventually made his comeback special.

When asked for Vijay’s absence from the match and the ground, Tamil Nadu skipper Vijay Shankar said after the match, “It seems he has some niggle. But I don’t know what niggle. I don’t have any information.”
