Mushfiqur Rahim takes a blow to head, ignores Proteas manager's advice

Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was taken to the hospital after being hit on the head by Duanne Olivier in Bloemfontein on Sunday (october 8). The incident happened in the 12th over of day three of the 2nd Test match. Bangladesh were at 52/2 after following on; Rahim didn’t rush to the hospital and was only taken to medical care after he was dismissed.

The visiting side’s skipper was struck on the left side of the head when he took his eyes off a short delivery from the pace bowler. The effect of the blow was very much visible as he got onto his knees and was then helped by some of the South African fielders.

The Bangladesh’s physiotherapist didn’t waste any time and went to check the skipper. South Africa’s team manager Mohammad Moosajee, who is a medical doctor soon followed. Moosajee had advised Mushfiqur to leave the field and take treatment but the skipper carried on. Rahim was finally dismissed for 26 after playing out 45 balls. The visitors are currently struggling as they lost more than half their side with just 144 on the board.

The struggle is real for Bangladesh and their skipper

The visitors didn’t had too many happy moments so far in this tour. After being crushed in the 1st Test by 333 runs, Bangladesh saw the Proteas’ pile up 573/4. In reply, South Africa shot them out for 147. The visitors were very much under the scanner after their skipper Mushfiqur slammed the players.

This was not the first time that the Bangladesh skipper suffered a blow. Earlier, during the series against New Zealand, Mushfiqur struggled against the short-ball and on one occasion he was hit on the head by pacer Neil Wagner and to be taken off in stretcher. He was taken to the hospital but got discharged in the same day. The incident took place during the 1st Test at Wellington.
