Former Sri Lankan cricketer, Muttiah Muralitharan has heaped praise on India’s spin bowling duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. The wrist spinners have been an integral part of the Indian ODI setup ever since they replaced experienced duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin after the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in the white ball squads of the Men In Blue.

Prior to the win in New Zealand, Chahal and Kuldeep had helped India win series against South Africa, Windies, Sri Lanka, Australia as well as the Asia Cup. So far, Chahal has picked up 71 wickets in 40 ODIs while Kuldeep has accounted for 77 scalps in 39 outings.

From the time the two spinners have made it to the squad they have troubled most opposition sides as they have not only restricted the flow of runs in the middle overs but also picked crucial wickets at regular intervals and put India ahead in the course of the game against quality sides in the past 18 months.

Chahal and Kuldeep recently completed 100 ODI wickets as a bowling pair. The two reached 100 ODI wickets as a bowling pair in the ongoing series versus New Zealand and will be key to India’s fortunes in the ICC World Cup 2019. The former great, Muralitharan opined the same but mentioned that the success of Chahal and Kuldeep depends upon the conditions in June- July in England where the mega event will take place.

“Indian selectors have confidence on the two wrist spinners which is a result of their impressive performance. India has two leg spinners while other countries have very few of them and hence they cannot copy India,” Muttiah Muralitharan was quoted as saying by the Asian Age.

“The conditions as well as the pitches in England usually assist swing bowling in the months of June and July and it will depend on the same factors how Kuldeep and Chahal fare at the World Cup,” said the member of the losing finalists in 2007 (against Australia) and 2011 (against India).
