Mzansi Super League 2018: CSA reveals team names

The six cities that will be hosting the league are Johannesburg, Tshwane, Durban, Nelson Mandela Bay, Cape Town and Paarl.

Cricket South Africa has joined the league of many other cricket boards with their own T20 league. Just a few days ago, the board announced the name of the league is Mzansi Super League. There will be big stars from all around the globe gracing the event.

It was announced that the league will kick off in just a little over a month from now. It will be played till mid-December and is expected to treat the Proteas fans with some great action throughout the summer. Back then, CSA had mentioned that the league will be played in six different cities and each of them will play the host to its own franchise. On Monday, the names of these six teams were also announced.

Here are the names of the Mzansi Super League teams

The six cities that will be hosting the league are Johannesburg, Tshwane, Durban, Nelson Mandela Bay, Cape Town and Paarl. Here are the names of the teams to which these cities will be playing hosts to:

  • Johannesburg – Jozi Stars
  • Tshwane – Tshwane Spartans
  • Durban – Durban Heat
  • Nelson Mandela Bay – Nelson Mandela Bay Giants
  • Cape Town – Cape Town Blitz
  • Paarl – Paarl Rocks

Cricket South Africa took it to Twitter to announce the team names and the logos. These were revealed on the Mzansi Super League official Twitter handle. Furthermore, the logos of the teams were also revealed along with the names.

“Introducing the 6 teams set to battle it out in the inaugural Mzanzi Super League! Who will you be backing? #MSLT20,” they wrote in the tweet.

South Africa will be touring to Australia next month to play three ODIs and one-off T20I. This tour will begin on November 4 and will end on November 17. Post this series, the team has got over a month’s break. They will be only facing Pakistan again for the Boxing Day Test match in December. Hence, most of the Proteas cricketers are expected to take part in a majority of the league.
