Narendra Modi acknowledges Rohit Sharma and Mithali Raj's contribution to the PM-CARES Fund

The entire world has come to a standstill since the outbreak of coronavirus. The COVID-19 virus has spread in a way, that it has devastated the entire world. More than 8.5 lakh people have already been diagnosed with the deadly virus while more than 43,000 people have lost their lives due to the virus.

Situation is getting worse all across the globe. In India, the numbers for getting higher day by day. On Wednesday, the number of patients of coronavirus in the country has reached to almost 1600. The numbers are likely to increase in the upcoming days. As the country is witnessing a 21-day lockdown, the state of the economy has been really difficult. Even after that, medical services have been performing really well and the Union Health Ministry has done all they can to protect its citizens.

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi organised a special relief fund and urged the people of the nation to donate for the well being of the country. It was named Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund.

He appealed to the countrymen to show support in this situation and contribute whatever they can. Several sports figures such as cricketer Rohit Sharma, shooter Esha Singh, para high jumper  Sharad Kumar and cricketer Mithali Raj have come together and made an honourable contribution to this cause. Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to thank all these people for their contribution.

“I am very happy that our hardworking sportspersons are at the forefront of the battle to defeat COVID-19. I would like to thank @sharad_kumar01, @ImRo45, @singhesha10, @M_Raj03 for their contribution to PM-CARES.#IndiaFightsCorona,” PM Modi tweeted.

Rohit Sharma made a contribution of INR 45 lakhs to the PM-CARES fund. He also made another contribution of INR 35 Lakhs in other relief funds. Mithali Raj contributed INR 5 lakhs to the PM-CARES funds while another INR 5 Lakhs to the state of Telangana and its relief fund. Even other Indian cricketers like Suresh Raina, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar among many have also contributed to the noble cause. All the contributions are being utilised to help the nation recover from the ongoing pandemic.
