Pakistan cricketer Nasir Jamshed’s woes don’t seem to end. He has already been banned for ten years by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for his role in the spot-fixing scandal in the second edition of the PSL. Now Jamshed and two other men, Yousuf Anwer and Mohammed Ijaz, have been given a trial date by the Manchester Crown court after pleaded not guilty over the accusation of offering bribes to professional cricket players.

The trio was arrested last February for planning to offer financial advantages to the players to perform improperly in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The arrests are also part of the investigation by the National Crime Agency in the tournaments organised by PCB and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Anwer and Ijaz tried to spot-fix in BPL

According to News 18, the offences are said to have taken place between November 1, 2016 and February 10, 2017. Moreover, Anwer and Ijaz are also accused of inducing the players to not perform well during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in between November 1, 2016 and December 6, 2016.

During a hearing on Monday, all the three accused, including Nasir Jamshed, entered not guilty pleas to all the charges on them. The trial which is estimated to last three weeks will take place in Manchester Crown court December 2. Jamshed, Anwer and Ijaz, all three were granted unconditional bail and have been told to attend a pre-trial review hearing on September 6.

As far as Nasir Jamshed’s career is concerned, he was one of the bright prospects for Pakistan not so long ago at the international level. He has featured in 2 Tests, 48 ODIs and 18 T20 Internationals for his country and played as an opener during his stint with the side. Like Sharjeel Khan, even he was one of the best players in Pakistan but fell prey to fixing and his career is almost over now.
