The constant comparisons between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar’s greatness are now being done by former cricketers too. Former England captain Nasser Hussain feels that Kohli might finish his career as the greatest batsman ever, but for now, Tendulkar remains the best of all time.
The 50-year-old Hussain played 96 Tests and 88 ODIs for England, from which he has 5764 and 2332 runs respectively. According to Nasser, Kohli is a great chaser and has won his team many matches on the back of his innings, but Tendulkar often got support from other legendary players that he played along with.
Nasser backed for Virat
Backing for Virat, Nasser told India Today, “I think Kohli is magnificent in a run chase, I have to say. He has won so many matches for India. With Sachin, there were others to win games with the fab five; Laxman, Dravid, Ganguly and Sehwag and him.”
“But you don’t get a 100 hundreds without winning games for India. Sachin also had to play a lot of great attacks. As a 16-year-old boy, he had to face Imran Khan, Waqar, Wasim and Qadir and to get two 50’s and a hundred in England as an 18-year-old and two hundreds in Australia in his first series there,” he added, highlighting Sachin’s greatness.
To give his final verdict on the comparison between the two great batsmen, Nasser said, “So for me, Tendulkar is the greatest but Kohli is not far behind and could well end up as the greatest.”
Virat, however, has always maintained that Tendulkar is his idol and he is not too fond of being compared to a legend. In several interviews, Kohli has stated that he is not even close to being the legend Sachin was, but Kohli’s numbers signify that he might just surpass most of Tendulkar’s records by the end of his career. He is only 29-years-old and has at least another 5 to 6 years of cricket left in him.
