The Indian Premier League (IPL) is yet in its league phase but the fever is already building up for the ICC World Cup starting in exactly a month’s time. A lot of overseas players have already departed from the IPL to join their respective countries’ final preparation for the showpiece event. Indian players will though continue playing in the IPL till the last date which is May 12 and consequently, the Men in Blue will be the last to launch their World Cup campaign on June 5.
As per as India’s own preparation for the World Cup, they will take with them four fast bowlers apart from those in their 15-man squad to get abundant practice in England and Wales ahead of the big tournament. Another reason for taking these bowlers is to keep injury replacements ready at a short notice if there is a requirement. The four fast bowlers are Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.
Of them, Saini has been kept as a standby besides Rishabh Pant and Ambati Rayudu while Chahar has been bowling well in the ongoing IPL. Khaleel has already made his international debut for India and Avesh has been a promising fast bowling talent.
Chahar and Saini, who has also done well in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore, recently spoke to TimesofIndia.com, wherein they reflected on their roles in helping Team India prepare for the WC.
“I have been given a big responsibility of a net bowler in the World Cup. My aim will be to bowl as fast as possible to Indian players and help them prepare for the World Cup,” Saini was quoted as saying.
Chahar feels his swing earned him the responsibility
Chahar, who has impressed in the IPL with his swing and is being taken to England to help the Indian batsmen acclimatise with the local conditions, was quoted as saying: “Indian selectors have given me a big duty. I think they have considered me because of the swing. I am ready to bowl my swingers to the Indian batsmen and get them ready for the World Cup.”
